The National Breast Cancer Coalition Fund has awarded 20 Advocacy in Action grants totaling $100,000 to member organizations selected by a competitive application process to assist groups in forwarding advocacy locally.
"These grants offer our member organizations support as they work to advance our goal of eradicating breast cancer," said Fran Visco, president of NBCCF. "The public policy work we do is intense, complex, and vital. These organizations will use the grants to expand advocacy in their communities and move beyond awareness to work for systemic change."
The winning organizations receiving $5,000 each are: Alamo Breast Cancer Foundation (San Antonio, TX); Annie Appleseed Project (Delray Beach, FL); Breast Cancer Alliance of Greater Cincinnati (Cincinnati, OH); Between Women (Brawley, CA); Breast Cancer Care and Research Fund (Los Angeles, CA); Breast Cancer Help, Inc. (Bay Shore, NY); Breast Cancer Resource Centers of Texas (Austin, TX); Cedar Valley Cancer Committee (Waterloo, IA); Colorado Breast Cancer Coalition(Englewood, CO); Florida Breast Cancer Coalition and Research Foundation (Hallandale, FL); Martin Memorial Cancer Center (Stuart, FL); Michigan Breast Cancer Coalition (Brighton, MI); Minnesota Breast Cancer Coalition (Cottage Grove, MN); Northern Ohio Breast Cancer Foundation (Brecksville, OH); Rhode Island Breast Cancer Coalition (Coventry, RI); SHARE (New York, NY); Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation (Richmond, VA); Wisconsin Breast Cancer Coalition (Milwaukee, WI); Women of Color Breast Cancer Survivors' Project (Los Angeles, CA); and the YWCA of Greater Baton Rouge (Baton Rouge, LA).
These awards, which are generously funded by the Breast Cancer Fund of National Philanthropic Trust, will be utilized by the 20 organizations for a variety of purposes, including: outreach programs to engage diverse communities in advocacy; meetings in state capitals to promote advocacy agendas; expanding advocacy outreach through websites and newsletters; and assisting individuals through scholarships to attend research/science advocacy training course and/or the Advocacy Training Conference in Washington, DC.
The National Breast Cancer Coalition is a grassroots membership organization dedicated to ending breast cancer through the power of action and advocacy.
